I have an acer aspire one D250 that came with windows 7. I removed the HD and used my desktop to format it (because windows seven wont let you downgrade to windows xp). Edem software price.

Once formated I attached an external cdrom and (after re-installing the formated drive) booted the computer. I entered the BIOS and set the boot. It starts its install as expected BUT once it starts to run windows so you can input parameters for the remaining install it fails out. Anyone know why this happens? I can get more information as I am very stubborn and will continue to provide effort into this project.

The reinstall disk are no longer available thru Acer. I have an Aspire One with a XP HOME ULPC COE. I put a sysprepped universal image onto it @ XP HOME OEM.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated! Best Answer: Hi, couple possibilities. I also have an Aspire One running Win XPPro, it also came with Windows 7 (Starter edition). I am running it now with an upgraded harddrive and held the original drive for future recoveries and if I decide to sell the netbook (doubtful), or just for OS licensing reasons. The 2 major problems I ran into were with the BIOS setting for the new harddrive (500Gb). The first fix was to set the harddrive inetrface from 'native' to 'legacy'. For some reason I found that WinXP just doesn't seem to like the SATA adapter built into the Aspire One, probably because SATA wasn't arounbd enough when XP was released, so the drive goes unrecognized / IO error.

The second problem I had was because I assumed the SATA controller would 'handle' the size of the drive so that XP would recognize the full 500Gbs even though the drivesize limitation on XP is 136Gbs for a partition. I've posted this fact for probably about 100 best answers on Y!Answers, and it still seems to be unknown. Also update Your BIOS from Acer's website, the legacy option was in the updated V2.50 BIOS, and I think I was lucky enough with timing to not miss it's placenment on the dloads site when I bought. So, set Your Windows partition to 128Gbs formatted as NTFS, set the (updated) BIOS to work with a legacy harddrive, and run the USB disc for setup. You shouldn;t have any other trouble getting it to run XP pro like a champ. Remember that XP Home will need to go through the Windows Validation check before it runs nrmally, and will register the existing hardware in the system to that regcode on the MS servers.

So Your Win7 license will be completely negated. I'm planning to make use of the Windows 7 'anytime upgrade' for my Aspire One whenever the SPacks have become effective enough for the full 7 versions of the OS. I tried for days to get Windows XP to install on my Acer Aspire One netbook A0531h.

I disabled the quick start-up in the bios which allowed Windows to install part way to the first restart with the AHCI setting. Next I had to decrease the size of the partitions to 128 GB from 180 GB. When I did this Windows XP installed all the way.

I don't under stand why I could install Windows XP on these 2 WD Blue WD5000LPVX 500GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5' Internal Notebook Hard Drive on an older Acer laptop with the partitions at 180 GB. • Tell us some more • Upload in Progress • Upload failed. Helloe, my friend got the new Aspire One ZG5 based. But now thanks to a virus, the MCAfee that's used isn't helping at all, it just detects and deletes the infected and(or) system files! There are two partitions: one is 149 GB (single active drive, i.e. C) and the other 8GB is for the system drive.
